How much money can your roof make?
Unconquered Sun Revenue Calculator
The Unconquered Sun Revenue Calculator is a tool designed to help you determine the revenue potential of your MicroFIT installation. System size and generation depends on a number of factors including roof size, orientation and pitch. The calculator above automatically determines the largest system that can be placed on your roof based on the measurements you have provided. The values used here are average values based on RETScreen Clean Energy Project Analysis Software created by Natural Resources Canada.
Roof Orientation
The direction your roof faces is a critical factor in determining the amount of sunlight your solar array will be exposed to. Installing your panels on the south face is ideal, with the east and west faces a viable option. The Revenue Calculator will help you determine the viability of your project by calculating the amount of sunlight available at different orientations.
Roof Pitch
Roof Pitch refers to the amount of rise a roof has compared to the horizontal measurement of the roof. The optimal pitch for a solar array in Southwestern Ontario is 7/12. The typical pitch for a residential home is between 4/12 and 8/12. Although generation revenue is impacted by changes in pitch, the impact may not be as severe as one might think. The difference in generation revenue between a 4/12 and 8/12 pitch on a South face is less than 3%.
Roof Size
System size is calculated using the Unconquered Sun 245 Watt Poly Panel. The dimensions of the panel are approximately 65" x 39" (17.9 ft2) or 1644mm x 972mm (1.6 m2). The total area of an installation will be impacted by roof size and shape. A rectangular footprint allows for better utilization than a triangular footprint.
MicroFIT Income
The current MicroFIT rate is $.802 cents/kWh. This means the Ontario Government will purchase all of the power you produce at a guaranteed rate for 20 years. It is difficult in this economic climate to find an investment with a payback period of less than 7 years, and an IRR (Internal Rate of Return) exceeding 13%.
